Blinker the Star
Careful With Your Magic

Somehow Blinker The Star keeps releasing new music, every couple years, and somehow it always takes me nearly a year to hear about it. I guess I shouldn't be surprised; they (he) never exactly garnered a lot of attention from the music press back in the 90s, much less now 20-whatever (ugh) years later. But whatever Jordan Zadorozny does as a day job (I can't imagine being Blinker the Star pays the bills), I'm glad that he still has the passion to keep pushing out new tunes. Because, honestly, they're pretty good! He knows his way around a song, and even though nothing he's been releasing is ever really going to blow up in the 2020 indie young person scene, it's still totally, totally solid music that I find myself listening to way more than I expect to. Good job, Blinker the Star.

We Draw Lines

Way better than I originally thought it was going to be. But not nearly good enough for anyone beyond those of us who obsessed over Blinker the Star in high school (or maybe the scattered Medicine fan still wandering around) to even acknowledge the existence of.

August Everywhere

I'm having, for the first time in years (many of them!), a bit of an August Everywhere renaissance. It pretty much never enters the rotation, being just so high schooly, and don't nobody got time for that. But out of nowhere I got "Your Big Night, Sandy" (of all songs!) stuck in my head the other day , and had to remedy the situation. I still think it's a sweet album. I kind of see why it never got big or anything, but front to back it's all good, and pretty unique (but not like weird unique). Also, I really like spelling the word "renaissance." One of my favorites.

Randazzo PizzaBrooklyn
Chorizo jalapeno pizza

It's possible you've read my precedent on this website that all New York pizza is equally good. More or less, exceptions to the rule, all that. As such, I'm not going around posting about all the pizza I eat on here, just trust me that it's generally good.

Randazzo is one of those good places, a regular ol slice joint within walking distance of my place. But the other day they had a new slice on offer: jalapeno, onion, and chorizo. I wasn't necessarily in the mood for this combination, but it looked fresh out of the oven and I was curious. My friends, am I ever glad I did, because this slice was good enough to break my rule and post about a slice of pizza. It's extremely probable that chorizo and jalapeno and onion slices can be found at random slice joints all over town, but on this one afternoon, for one sweet moment, during the global confusion of a mass viral pandemic, Randazzo PIzza was the best pizza place in town.

Nasi lemak, roti canai, rendang

I don't eat Malaysian food very often, but whenever I do I usually end up deciding it's my favorite of all the foods.

Lamb kabob, noodles

Queens is the kind of place where you can get Uyghur food in a mall food court and that's just totally normal. And that Uyghur food involves a lamb kabob served to you on a sword.
