Cate Le Bon
Reward

I went into this liking Cate Le Bon a lot. Her music is weird and unique, but has a calming sincerity to it, and is always 100% her. The couple lead singles I heard to this new one Reward had me on the edge of my seat, ready to call it the album of the year, and not need to listen to anything else between now and January. To quote something I wrote in an unnamed comment section somewhere, "I loved the songs on the last Cate Le Bon record, but I feel like these new ones actually love me back." And they do. The rest of the album though, is closer to more-of-the-same. Which is still great. But like I still want to listen to other things too.

Crab Day

Weirdo avant garde pop rock from a Welsh lady who sings like Trish Keenan from Broadcast (or more obviously: Nico) with a heavy Wales accent, backed by Eleanor Friedberger's band and a kickass marimba player. Or at least a halfway competent marimba player. Cool record. "Weirdo" and "avant garde" do apply, but more importantly it's fun. It's catchy and energetic. Hard to find that combination, but this totally nails it. A real hoot!

Jay & Lloyd's Kosher DeliBrooklyn
Pastrami on rye, potato latke

I found a real, classic New York Jewish deli in Sheepshead Bay! You can tell it's authentic because the sandwiches are $24 each and a little bit disappointing. Good coleslaw though.

Nashville hot chicken

Nashville is a terrible city and Nashville hot chicken is overrated.

Chicken

Esker Grove is one of the highest rated new restaurants in Minneapolis, but we had a very odd experience there. Weird service, slow service, a drastic and constant gust of wind coming through the propped-open patio door, the general feeling that something was off. And my chicken wasn't that great. But that's on me for ordering chicken at a fancy restaurant. Never do that.
