Laura Marling
Semper Femina

Laura Marling is very, very good. Her album is produced by Blake Mills, who is also very very good. But I worry that Blake Mills turned this Laura Marling album a little too much into a Blake Mills album. Kind of like what he did with the Alabama Shakes. Except I ended up really enjoying that Alabama Shakes album, and I'm already starting to really enjoy this Laura Marling album, because Laura Marling is very, very good.

Laura Marling
Once I Was An Eagle

One thing I could've written about in regards to this Laura Marling album is how she and Laura Mvula are both super singers from England with the names Laura M. Another thing I could've written about is how it sounds like Joanna Newsom's Have One On Me if Joanna Newsom didn't play the harp and sang like an adult. But what will write about is how this album is just too goddamn long. That shouldn't be a complaint about an album, but here we are. It's too long. There's too much of it. It makes the special moments seem less special. Cut it in half, Marling.

This is the best banh mi I've ever eaten, and it's in Brooklyn Park. The suburbs are going to save us all.

Tacos al pastor

Hey, guess what?? I moved to St. Paul! Yessir, down to the Irish Catholic boonies of ol' Pig's Eye, more or less the middle of nowhere, just off West 7th. There's not a whole lot of food around here. Mostly just a shocking number of shockingly similar Irish bars—or at least bars with shamrocks in their logos. And Mucci's. But we'll get to Mucci's later. The one bright spot so far, however, is Tavial, a little taqueria located in what was probably a fast food joint of some sort. I was told that this place was good, but that recommendation left off about 4 o's, because Tavial is gooooood. Truly some of the best tacos I've had in this town, full stop. Even their rice is better than the usual spanish rice you get at these places. The al pastor was the clear winner, but I also had carnitas, which was just as crispy and flavorful as you'd hope carnitas to be. You know what? I'm going to add 4 more o's. Tavial is gooooooooood.
